Were They or Were They NOT on a BREAK?

Anyone who has ever being a fan of the multi-award winning series Friends that was aired from 1994-2004 would know what I am talking about. The “big fight” between Ross and Rachel which caused the rift between them as boyfriend and girlfriend would be remembered by everyone who has watched Friends.

From the beginning it is portrayed that Ross (David Schwimmer) has always had feelings for Rachel Greene (Jeniffer Aniston). Although Ross has never been able to confess the way he feels to Rachel, Rachel finds out about it at end of the first season.

Thus in the second season Ross and Rachel get together as a couple. After a couple of seasons, their comes this rift between the two of them when Rachel starts working at Ralph Laurens and there comes this guy who helps Rachel gets the job into the picture. Driven by jealousy and by the fact that they both had not been able to spend some quality time together as a couple, Ross starts complaining and Rachel gets unbearably angry with him for all sorts of things and asks for a BREAK away from each other.

Knowing Ross’s character as everyone does, he is devastated and goes to some bar where this “hot” chick that Ross, Joey and Chandler has been raving about turns onto him and they sleep together. Now the Time for the BIG QUESTION. Was what Ross did wrong in terms of whether they were on a break from each other or NOT?? I am not talking about the Love factor and all that bullshit, just for arguments sake. can Rachel throw that at Ross’s face saying that he cheated on her? I just cant seem to understand it..

I got to thinking about this because a couple of days during the breakfast me, my sis and a couple of friends got to talking about whether each one present considered whether they had been on a break or not, and surprisingly the opinion was divided. Those who begged to differ on the fact that they were not on a break gave the reason that “Of Ross did love Rachel as much he wouldn’t have or shouldn’t have” which is not the point. I for one find the notion a bit annoying. Because, they were definitely on a break. Apart from the love factor and all that mushy stuff where you are supposed to mourn for like a gazillion years after a breakup, I think Ross didn’t do anything wrong by sleeping with someone else. Opinions will tend to differ. So, what do you think?

Upcoming Novels I am Looking Forward To!

Shadow Dance
Being the book hungry worm that I am, (no regrets at all whatsoever about the fact), I am kind of looking forward to some novels by authors whose books that I love dearly. Some are to come out next month.. and some later than that.

1. Shadow Dance by Julie Garwood: This book which is to come out in December of 2006 is a much awaited novel of her fans. the story centers around the handsome and dashing Noah Clayborne who has featured in many of Julie Garwood’s contemporary novels featuring the Buchanan Family,  such as Heartbreaker and Mercy. The heroine is none other than Jordan Buchanan, the sister of Theo (my favorite Julie Garwood hero of all time) and Nick Buchanan from Mercy and Heartbreaker respectively. I can’t wait to get my hands on this book and read the fascinating journey that they make separately to find each other, at long last. (I sure love the cover of this book. Has got this mysterious aura thing going on.)Reluctant Mistress, Blackmailed Wife

2. Reluctant Mistress, Blackmailed Wife by Lynne Graham: This will supposedly hit the e-book stands next month. I love books by Lynne Graham because she portrays a world which is so foreign to most women and something that only we can dream about most of our life. Dashing heroes clashing with their match in every way, losing patience and regretting the burst of emotion from men who try to put out the image of being cold and heartless. Am certain this story would make a wonderful read as any of her books.
(rubbing hands together) cant wait!!!! Stay Through The Night

3. Stay Through The Night by Anne Mather: Since I read Anne Mather’s His Virgin Mistress a few years back by chance, I have loved her style of writing although I don’t get the opportunity to read a lot of her books. Although the paperback version of the book has already being released this book hits the e-book stands in November as well.

Educational Institutes That Should Not Exist!!!

Education is the foundation of our lives today and it is important nowadays at least to have a Bachelors Degree in some field for one to survive in the highly advanced and fast paced world we live in today.

What really pisses me off are educational institutions which compromises quality of what they are offering for money. I know that not each and everyone of us have the means to go over to UK and USA to have a higher education. But “cheap” education doesn’t mean what you learn or what you get from that institution should be valued at 0 dollars.

Being a victim of such an institution in Malaysia, I find it highly revolting that they produce an image which says that the quality is the main priority for them when it comes to education. But what really happens is there is no difference between the students who really try and work hard to reach their goals and those who wile away their time by copying from the hard working students. There is no difference applied when grading assignments and projects that have been done from scratch by a couple of handful of students whereas the majority just copy and paste from the Internet and pass up the required assignments and projects just because they have to do it so that the institution does not alert their parents.

Lecturers who come in is another story. They are fresh graduates who have little or no experience on what they are doing and what they should be doing. Even guidelines that a lecturer should know about the policies of the institution have to be told by students sometimes. Pathetic huh? They are just in it for the money only and do not really care about the students who would have to suffer. They make up for the lack of their expertise by providing an abundance of “tips” for the final exams which includes sometimes even the whole paper in terms of their notes.

Whilst the period of studying for the Bachelors Degree should be a period where the student takes up the skills of doing research and learning to cope with subjects on his or her own, this institution promotes the spoon feeding technology and expects the students to get the greatest results and pass up individual and high-tech projects in their final year when the moderating university from UK takes interest in the students performance. This has been my experience during the three years of studying for my degree.

There are situations far worse than mine. I know of friends and relatives who in India have come under worse circumstances where their educational institutions are just places where you go and pay loads of money for nothing. You go for classes which aren’t attended by any lecturer, or else the class is taught in a different language other than English etc. Such problems affect the student who has high hopes when he or she joins that institution in terms of the education and services that they would receive. Even if top notch services and quality of education provided by institutions in rich countries such as the UK and USA cannot be provided, I say that what is worthy of your money should be provided.

Education has become a money making business during the present day to the extent that quality is no longer the essence that drives this force. It is really sad to see that the quality is compromised for the quantity, in this case making humongous sums of money by enticing a large population of students for a smaller fee compared to higher quality institutions, and employing lecturers who have no idea what it is they are doing and making students suffer all the way through. People should really think about this because the future of our world depends on the children of today who get education from rotten institutions like ones I have encountered with.

Justice League Unlimited Ends :(

Just finished watching the last season of Justice League Unlimited. Man, its so hard to believe that they won’t be producing any more of this great stuff. Its like the best entertainment ever. (sob sob). Sigh!!

I wish that they would continue to go on producing more of this rather than putting an end to this great show which has captured the imagination and attention of million of viewers all around the world.

There are rumors that a new series depicting Flash might come around. But things just won’t be the same would they? Justice League Unlimited Season five ended in such a way that there might be an opening or room for a new season. Lex Luthor and Darkside both disappear with the anti-life equation in hand. Most can assume that they will return once again as Batman predicts at the end.

It just breaks my heart to know that there would be no more Justice League episodes to look forward to as it is one series that I have enjoyed always.

North Korea – The Epitome of HR Violations

A news article on Google News about the fact that the US and other countries such as Japan and Russia are threatening to take action against North Korea if it were to go ahead with its nuclear tests as it had stated, had me interested in learning more about this nation which has isolated itself from the rest of the world in every way possible.

I feel sorry for all North Koreans who have to live under the harsh conditions outlined by their government. Although two political parties exist and rights are outlined in their constitution for freedom of speech and freedom of religion etc. citizens who tend to criticize the government at any level is arrested, severely tortured, re-educated(by sending to camps where they have to labour under harsh condition, or murdered).

I was appalled after reading various articles on the state of human rights in the country and deeply shocked to know that North Koreans have been living under such harsh conditions even at this age and time. Some of the facts I gleaned from reading the article include:

  • Television and radio sets handed out are modified by the Government so that no foreign broadcasts are received by the citizens. Anyone in violation or any citizen who has modified such a set to receive foreign broadcasts are imprisoned and subjected to severe punishment.
  • There have been reports that biological and chemical weapons have been tested on inmates of prisons.
  • Severe punishments such as beatings (resulting in death), confinement to smaller cells which prevent either standing up or lying down, hanging prisoners by their wrists etc are common practices in detention camps in North Korea.
  • No citizen is allowed to travel out of North Korea without obtaining legal permission from the Government.
  • Females who flee to China and are forced to return back are imprisoned and if pregnant are either forced to under go abortions in the prison or their babies are killed in front of them when they are born.
  • Entire families are punished for “crimes” committed by one person of the family.

And the list goes on and on..

May Almighty Allah save us from such Governments and conditions. Ameen!
