Wake up Dr. Waheed!

It might have been a dream of yours

to one day rule this country
to see the overwhelming support Nasheed has, directed at you
to be the one to have that vision for betterment of this country
to one day bring democratic reforms to this country

But now its time to face the inevitable truth
To wake up and realize that the majority of Maldivians

would never support you
would never rally behind you
would never direct their smiling faces towards you
would never think of you as the kind of leader they would all look up to
would never associate you as an advocator of democracy
would only think of you as the one who fell for the tricks of the old order

Shake off that delusion and look around to see that

the members of your so called unity government are mocking you behind your back
they can’t wait to discredit you the way they did for President Nasheed
they can’t wait to topple your so called unity government and take the reins
they can’t wait to see you fail and slink off to some foreign land

Rub off the tendrils of your dream to stand up

for your country
for the people who are crying out against this atrocity
for those who want an independent enquiry
for those who want an election
for those who want a clean and efficient judiciary
for those who are kind enough to want you to save yourself

Hear the people’s voice and make up your mind

before the blood suckers leech you dry
before all this reaches its inevitable conclusion
before it becomes too late for you to turn back and do the right thing.

Us ‘poverty’-stricken Maldivians

Us ‘poverty’-stricken Maldivians,
who bitch about the rising costs everyday,
but still find the means to buy a football jersey
worth Mrf. 500/- ..

Our fellow citizens who claim they barely get by,
and spend thousands of cash,
to tote the latest mobile phone,
fresh off the manufacturer’s rack,
& never seem to think twice about it ..

Us ‘poor’ Maldivians,
who claim to have no savings worth a dime,
but still find a way,
to be dressed in the latest fashion ..

Dear gov.mv

We voted for you in good faith
Hoping for a change that would impact our lives in a good way
Understanding the fact that the road ahead would be, not an easy one
Knowing that there would be many a hurdles to cross
And of course the corrupt disciples of the 30 year regime to deal with
We rejoiced when the movement for change finally won
Trusting you to turn our country around, no matter how difficult a job it may be
At first, the power hungry souls remained silent
Waiting and watching for signs
Readying to move in for the kill
At times the allegations border on the line of ridicule
And one year on
The voice of the opposition seems to grow stronger
While your voice seems to move,
further & further away..
Leaving us barely clutching at straws
To justify to ourselves, why we voted for this change
Many a time we wish
That your actions spoke louder than words
And let awareness be created amongst the citizens
Unless giving armor to the opposition
is the life of good governance,
Because its high time dear gov.mv
That you learn,
Silence is not always golden!

The League of the Ex-Atholhuveringe Club

Someone has nurtured them to think they are above the law

and that to no one they have to answer to

It doesn’t help that upper crust of the management have similar issues

of course, it doesn’t help much

when you have been nurtured in a certain way

for the past 30 years!

They are too busy trying to save their face

with the rapid changes that have come about,

rather than tackle the issues that are at hand.

Leaving the gentlemen of the club, to do as they please.

Anyone who has an opinion cannot survive,

they really need to fight it out till the end.

And when its over, the club of gentlemen always wins,

cause no matter what, the league has cast its web of deceit

far and wide amongst the upper crust.

Their management style is unlike anything

I have ever seen.

And they are proud to show it off,

because it keeps those opinionated fools,

who work to change things for the better at bay!

Oh, how  much do I wish we could all just walk away,

and leave the club to run the organization on their own.

I bet they would be floundering and drowning

in their own pile of shit in no time!

But alas, circumstances of us lower class employees

dictate we stick around

and let the spray of shit hit us, when it goes around!

This is dedicated to those few brave employees at the Commission, who fight it out everyday to change things for the better! This one’s for you guys! :)

The Boy from The Beach

Those eyes of his still haunt me

Eyes that had seen more than I would ever see in my whole life..

Eyes that were brimming with the futile hopelessness

that he must have been feeling..

Eyes that begged for what he could not voice

Conveying with the look that he was almost ready to give up

Just to feel what it would be like

To end the constant battle for survival..

I watched on a feeling of helplessness so deep within me

that still invoke a feeling of profound sadness in my heart

wishing and hoping that one day he would find

something to live for,

something to hope for,

something to dream about..

This is dedicated to all homeless children out there. My prayers are with you always…
